Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of Women Entrepreneurs in Social Media Marketing (Featuring Katie Small)

When you’re a small but mighty team it requires a lot of process, practice and patience to ensure that everyone is operating at their best - both inside and outside of the office. While boundaries are important, so is making sure that you play to your strengths that set you up for success while you’re at work. Whether it’s changing your work environment (hello sunshine!) for some of your calls, or blocking your schedule so you have adequate time to spend with your family, each woman on the Next Page team ensures that they’ve created a schedule that works for them. This month, we’re going behind the scenes with Next Page’s Project Administrator, Katie Small

My Routine

6AM - Alarm goes off and I snuggle the cats for 5 more minutes before heading downstairs for my favorite part of my morning - a quiet cup of coffee before the chaos starts

6:20AM - Do a quick scroll through my emails and schedule for the day to make sure I’m prepped.  This includes checking on our Next Page clients!

7:15AM - Get husband out the door and get my kiddo to the bus stop.

8AM - Finish up sending review reminders, proofreading and scheduling social media posts

8:30AM - Pause my Next Page work and start my full-time job as a Senior Marketing Manager for a financial services brand. I’ll start by answering urgent emails or begin necessary follow-ups on tasks.

9:30AM - Yoga class.  My yoga practice is a non-negotiable in my day!

10:30AM - 4:30PM The meetings, emails, and project reviews begin at my job. I’ll take a lunch at some point between meetings - since I work at home, I might do a load of laundry, load the dishwasher, or prep dinner.

4:30PM - Review my day and start to wrap up.  I’ll make notes about what needs to be done for the next day as a priority.

5:30PM - Pick up my kiddo from after school and take her to various activities.

My Go-To Tip

Flexible time blocking and planning is essential to balance in my day.

Final Thoughts

I try my best to be done with my day at 5:30, but as a side hustle owner, this may mean I need to do a little work before bed.  I have gotten better about structuring my day so I don’t have to do that!  I enjoy my work at Next Page - it allows me a creative outlet, gives me extra income for my kid’s activities, and I have developed fantastic relationships with our clients.

Because I love what I do - it’s important to me to manage my time blocks for Next Page, my full-time job, and family - I come away feeling fulfilled, satisfied, and not stressed!  Since my side hustle can be done anywhere, at any time, I am able to squeeze in extra work on quiet weekend mornings if necessary.

Katie is an amazing example of a working mom who balances her responsibilities without losing her sanity. Working from home helps her create a schedule that works for her. Note: yoga is a non-negotiable part of her day!

Stay tuned next month when we get a peak behind the scenes with another member of our team.
