Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of Women Entrepreneurs in Social Media Marketing (Featuring Chandler Shea Vogler)
This month, we’re going behind the scenes with our Creative Manger, Chandler. When she’s not working on Next Page projects, she runs her own website marketing agency and spends time at the beach with her dogs, Todd and George. For her, it’s important to stay in the zone and remove any distractions so her days are as productive as possible. After all, when the creativity muses are speaking - there’s no telling when they’ll be back!
My Routine:
7:00AM - Alarm goes off (In reality, my alarm is my dogs. When they’re up, I’m up!) and I begrudgingly roll out of bed.
7:02 - 7:20AM - I grab a glass of water and take the pups out to do their business while I take in some fresh (and warm - thank you, Florida!) air and knock out my daily social media scrolling.
7:20AM - 8AM - Take my vitamins, feed the dogs, and get ready to head to the office (AKA, my guest bedroom).
8AM - 9:00AM - Read through emails, add any new tasks to my to-do list, check my schedule
9:00AM - 12:30PM - Design/code/craft/knock-out tasks for the day.
12:30PM - 1:30PM - Stretch break for myself and the pups, then lunch!
1:30PM - 3:30PM - Continue to design/code/craft/knock-out tasks for the day. Prep for and attend meetings.
3:30PM - 4PM - Prep for tomorrow by updating my to-do list for both work and personal life.
4PM - Walk the dogs to the beach and back.
My Go-To Tip:
Check email 1-2 times per day, and close the application when working so as to not get easily distracted!
My Final Thoughts:
In order to be the most productive, I silence notifications from social media, emails, and personal messages while I’m working. If I see an email pop up and it’s something I can tackle quickly for a client, I’m likely going to stop what I’m doing, knock that out, and lose focus on the task I was previously working on, which should take priority. If someone sends a funny reel on Instagram, I may scroll on forever!
I’ve found that when I’m in the zone, I’m in it - and if I break that focus, there’s no telling when I’ll get that groove back. Plus, even though we utilize project management software, I’m also all about a hand-written list of my most important tasks for the day. When juggling a variety of projects for clients across several industries, I’m able to quickly see what I need to focus on!
When there are viable distractions (dogs, beach, Instagram reels…) throughout your day, doing what you can to limit how those distractions affect your productivity are super important. After all, it’s OK to take a social media break, and it’s important to check emails. But when they begin to fracture your concentration, it’s a good time to set boundaries. For Chandler, scrolling social media in the morning, and limiting how often she checks her email, allows her to put her energy and creativity towards the projects that she is best known for.
